Jock Cunningham
John (Jock) Cunningham has lived all his life in the Gladesville, Denistone East area, for the last 73 years. Sport being one of his passions, having joined the Gladesville Ravens in their first year of competitive football history in 1961. As a past President serving seven years over the following years 1990-1993, 1999-2000, 2003 and 2010 also Vice President 2001-2002 and becoming a Ravens Life Member in 1993. He received an award in 2003 by State NSW Football and life membership at GHFA (Gladesville–Hornsby Football Association)/NWSF (North West Sydney Football) in 2012. He has continued his long association with the Ravens and still involved being the club’s Football Delegate to the North West Football Association from 2001-2013 and 2013–2024. Two of his sons are still involved in playing or coaching and two of his eight young grandchildren play with the Ravens. He has continued to be involved with the Ravens on the board and general committee and over the 60 years in coaching in soccer, tee ball and cricket.
Jock received the Gladesville Hornsby Association Medal in 2001, a previous Gladesville Hornsby Representative Under 14 team manager 1997 and manager of Under 16 team to Gothia Cup in Sweden 1998. He was heavily involved in rowing and achieved NSW State Rowing Championship winners Lightweight Senior Eight title in 1997. In 1998 coaches Ravens Under 12 Div 1 side to Premiers and Champions and runners up in State Champion of Champions title. Football being his passion and achievements in winning premiership in 1972, 1985, 1987-1989.
Later in life, at the age 47, Jock took up lawn bowls at Putney Tennyson Bowling Club and held the positions of Vice President 2008-2010 and President 2019–2023. Winner of 14 club championship and seven runner ups titles at Putney TBC. He also spent five years at Hunters Hill BC being President for three years 2014–2016.
The closure of Putney Tennyson Bowling Club on 31 October 2023 saw the majority of bowlers (31) transfer across to North Ryde RSL to continue their sporting careers.
