Do you have our next Sports Star of the Year in your Club? RSF nominations are now open for 2026/27. We welcome nominations from sporting clubs, schools, coaches and relevant community organisations. Over the last 46 years RSF has identified many talented sports stars so here is a great opportunity for you to nominate your sporting star. Twelve finalists will each receive a $1250 award. Gavin Murray having recently been crowned the winner of the RSF 2025/26 Sports Star of the Year Award on 14th August, headed out to Daegu, South Korea a few days after the presentation night for the World Masters Athletics. Gavin has competed in three events in the 70-74 age group. Recording first place in the weight throw (won it by 1.20m), 2nd in the hammer throw. He was 5th going into his final round and pushed the silver medallist down to third by 1cm. And 5th in the shot put. Gavin has also the discus at 11.20am (EST) and on the 2nd September throws Pentathlon. A great achievement from Gavin and worthy winner of RSF Sports Star of the Year.
Congratulations to two of our previous RSF Sports Star recipients Ruby BETRO (Western Sydney Wanderers) and Alyse OPPEDISANO (Sydney FC) being named in the FIFA Under 17 Womens World Cup Junior Matildas Squad. They play their first game vs Chile 20th October 5am (AEDT), Spain 23 October 2am (AEDT), Mexico 26th October 2am (AEDT).
